Hyundai Ioniq 6 Teased Ahead Of Malaysian Launch

The sleek, multiple award-winning Hyundai Ioniq 6 is headed for Malaysia. How do we know? Because Hyundai Sime Darby Motors just posted a blazingly obvious photo together with drag coefficient figures and the catchphrase “6 appeal, streamlined” on its Facebook page.

The Ioniq 6 was teased on the Malaysian FB page.

The “streamliner” EV has been teased for Malaysia numerous times before. The Ioniq 6’s Malaysian debut was practically confirmed by the company back in December of last year, while an April teaser confirmed that it would be arriving in 2023. So it’s reasonable to assume that the Ioniq 6 will make its Malaysian debut imminently in light of this most recent teaser.

The Ioniq 6 is known as the “streamliner” because of its smooth, aerodynamically efficient design, which results in a drag coefficient of only 0.21 Cd. Hyundai claims that the Ioniq 6’s real-world power consumption can be as low as 13.9 kWh/100 km, making it one of the most energy-efficient EVs currently available on the market.

According to Hyundai, the Ev’s 77.4 kWh battery pack allows range of up to 610 km (WLTP) on a single charge for the single-motor long-range model. It is compatible with DC fast charging at up to 350 kW and takes just 18 minutes to charge from 10-80% thanks to the 800V electrical architecture.

The all-new Ioniq 6 is available worldwide with either a single or dual motor setup, with the most potent model generating up to 320 hp and 650 Nm of torque, achieving a 0-100 km/h time of 5.1 seconds.

The exact configuration for the Malaysian market won’t be known until after the vehicle’s official launch, but some of the globally standard features include the Parametric Pixel exterior lighting, twin 12-inch displays, vehicle-to-load (V2L) ports, and the most recent SmartSense advanced driver systems from the manufacturer.

OUR THOUGHTS

The Ioniq 6’s unique looks, great ride and handling, and class-leading range will help to plonk it at the top of the mid-sized EV sedans, starting from RM184,475 for the SE model. Hyundai and its sister company Kia seem to have a monopoly on global car awards, winning several back-to-back awards over the past few years. The Ioniq 6 has already won the Best EV in Austria, the Saloon of the Year for the 2023 GQ Car Awards, the World Car award, Autocar’s Best Company Car as well as the Gold prize for the 2023 iF Design Awards.
