June is a big month for Lambo plug-in hybrids in Malaysia. The first week of June of this year will see the local launch of the Lamborghini Urus SE, the brand’s first PHEV. This was confirmed yesterday by Francesco Scardaoni, the Asia-Pacific Regional Director for Lamborghini, at the Super Trofeo Asia 2024 race at the Sepang International Circuit.
The Urus SE will effectively be making its way to Malaysia in less than two months after making its world debut at the Beijing Motor Show 2024 late last month. Deliveries will start at the end of Q1 2025.
As the brand’s first SUV with a PHEV powertrain, the Urus SE has a marginally “softer” exterior design to the standard Urus. To keep aggression and performance levels at the max though, the manufacturer has fitted the Urus SE with a redesigned spoiler and diffuser that it claims provides 35% more downforce at high speeds than the Urus S.
On the power side, a critical part of the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powertrain is the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine and electric drivetrain. The V8 pumps out 620 hp and 800 Nm, while its transmission-integrated electric drive system, which is housed inside an 8-speed automatic gearbox, generates 192 hp and 482 Nm on its own.
The highest system output of the Urus SE is 800 horsepower when power is distributed to all four wheels, allowing it to reach sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 312 km/h.
Thanks to a 25.9 kWh lithium-ion battery, the electric motor can also drive all four wheels independently and offers an all-electric range of up to 60 km.
The Urus SE’s interior has been redesigned to better showcase the brand’s “feel like a pilot” design theme. Additionally, it has a sizable 12.3-inch screen that utilises the latest Human Machine Interface (HMI) from the Italian automaker.

As the Italian brand’s first-ever PHEV, the Urus SE is a major release. As Lamborghini works on its first EV, due later in the decade, the SE with its electric motor and petrol engine combination will work to soften the transition to electrification for buyers coming to terms with an engine-less, noise-less Lambo within a few short years. The PHEV was first unveiled in Beijing towards the end of last month, and its arrival in Malaysia will be its second regional premiere, following Thailand.
