Mazda’s CX-60 is finally open for bookings. Previewed at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS 2024), the CX-60’s distributor Bermaz Motor has already opened the order books for the stylish SUV in Malaysia through the Mazda Malaysia website.
According to the booking site, the CX-60 will be available in Malaysia in five exterior colours, including Soul Red Crystal, Jet Black, Zircon Sand, Platinum Quartz, and Rhodium White. It will be a single model, fully imported (CBU) from Japan.
Malaysia to get 2.5-litre and forego the 3.3-litre
The 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine, which Malaysia should get (to keep price down), drives the Japan-spec model powers the front wheels with 188 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Unfortunately, at this stage, word out of Hiroshima says that Southeast Asia markets will not get the new flagship 3.3-litre straight-six engines which were unveiled alongside the brand’s new SUV lineup and come in petrol or diesel versions with moderate hybrid assistance.
The CX-60 is also offered with plug-in hybrid powertrains (PHEV) in other markets. This combination produces 327 horsepower and 500 Nm with a 2.5-liter normally aspirated inline-four engine and an electric motor. According to the WLTC test cycle in Japan, the PHEV version of the CX-60 can go up to 71 km with the onboard 17.8 kWh battery pack.
The CX-60 is positioned as a member of the company’s most recent Large Product line and was designed using the Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture. This Mazda will compete with more upscale rivals like the Volvo XC60, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and BMW X3.
While the inside boasts luxury accents like two-tone leather upholstery, rough-out leather on the dashboard, and open-pore hardwood veneers, the external design showcases the company’s most recent incarnation of its signature Kodo design language.
CARLIST THOUGHTS
The CX-60 is undoubtedly one of the best, if not the best-looking mid-sized SUV on the market today. And thanks to Mazda’s new engine range—although SE Asia won’t get the 3.3L for now—this stylish SUV is getting rave reviews around the world that compliment its design, its drivetrains and its interior luxury, which to be honest, vies with the likes of BMW for quality and design flare.
