The IONIQ 5 on Steroids: Hyundai Reveals High-Power NPX1 Concept

Hyundai Motor Company revealed the ‘IONIQ 5 N NPX1’ today, an electric concept car equipped with prototype performance parts, making its debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2024.

The NPX1 gives a sneak peek at potential N-branded accessories that electric vehicle owners will soon be able to purchase to customize their cars. The parts previewed on the concept model include carbon fiber body kit components like a front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser, along with a rear wing spoiler, lightweight hybrid carbon wheels, high-performance brake pads, lowering springs and Alcantara bucket seats.

Hyundai N, the company’s high-performance division, plans to begin offering these N Performance Parts in 2024, starting with the IONIQ 5 N electric crossover. The parts lineup will later expand to all N models, including the Elantra N, i20 N and i30 N.

“In 2024, Hyundai Motor Company will take a step forward as a leader in new tuning parts suitable for the high-performance EV era,” said Joon Park, Vice President of Hyundai’s N Brand Management Group. “Not limited to tuning parts, we are also developing software customization such as sound and vehicle calibration by OTA updates which will open a completely new category of EV customization for an exciting future ahead for the tuning community.”

Our Thoughts

The avant-garde Ioniq 5 was already a head-turning electric crossover with its retro-futuristic styling, but the new NPX1 concept suggests that an even more exciting iteration is coming for driving enthusiasts. By outfitting the performance-oriented Ioniq 5 N with aggressive aero components like a prominent rear wing and carbon fiber accents, Hyundai has created a uniquely customized vehicle that promises to turn even more heads while delivering smiles per mile.
