Chinese automaker BYD recently launched its new plug-in hybrid SUV, the Yangwang U8 Premium Edition, under its upscale Yangwang sub-brand. The new vehicle combines impressive performance and luxury features with a focus on safety and capability.
Priced at 1,098,000 RMB ($154,000 USD), the Yangwang U8 Premium Edition features a plug-in hybrid powertrain with a total range of 1,000km (620 miles). This enables both electric and gas powered driving for extended range capability. Power and performance also impresses with 1,200 horsepower allowing a 0-100km/h time of just 3.6 seconds.
Further enhancing the premium SUV is BYD’s proprietary e4 platform and DiSus-P intelligent suspension system. The e4 platform utilizes four-wheel independent vector control through four motors, optimizing handling and control. The DiSus-P system adds roll stability, assisting over varied terrain. Unique safety features include emergency flotation for flooded driving and tire blowout stabilization.
Interior luxury appointments in the U8 Premium Edition include a symmetrical dual screen cockpit with OLED displays, customizable ambient lighting, premium leather seating with heating/cooling and massage functions, and a 22 speaker Dynaudio sound system. Exterior styling combines luxury and ruggedness with a commanding presence.
BYD plans over 90 Yangwang direct sales stores in 40+ cities in China by end of year as it rolls out the U8 Premium Edition SUV. First deliveries to customers begins this October. Positioning the Yangwang brand for premium and performance, the new U8 flagship represents BYD’s commitment to advancing new energy vehicles.
