New Mazda 6 Anniversary Edition Launched in Malaysia

With a new “20th Anniversary Edition” model at the top of the range to commemorate the first-generation Mazda 6’s 20th anniversary, Bermaz Motor has unveiled the upgraded 2023 Mazda 6 here in Malaysia. The new 2023 model features improved equipment throughout the range and according to the brand, was created to “express gratitude to all Mazda customers.”

The new 20th Anniversary Edition will be on display at the Bermaz Auto event at Oval Concourse, Selangor, from the 11th to 15th October 2023, and is available in three variants with pricing starting from RM180,359 all the way up to RM240,848. on-the-road without insurance. The 3 versions are the base-grade Sedan, the Touring and the High Plus Sedan “20th Anniversary Edition.”

The available drivetrain options are unchanged with a 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G inline-four engine with 162 hp and 213 Nm of torque powering the base model. A 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and paddles behind the steering wheel transmits power to the front wheels, allowing for a top speed of 205 km/h.

The 2.5L Touring and 2.5L High Plus Sedan 20th Anniversary Edition are the two more expensive models, and both come with a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated SkyActiv-G inline-four engine that can produce up to 192 hp and 258 Nm. Both have front-wheel drive as standard, and the more potent engines permit higher top speeds of 218 km/h and 223 km/h, respectively.

As you’d expect, the exterior is basically carried over, although the 20th edition at the top of the lineup does get a new logo on the front fender and has 19-inch wheels with a Bright Metallic finish to complement its Gunmetal radiator grille.

The new Mazda 6 will be available in ten exterior colours, including a brand-new Artisan Red Premium that is only available on the 20th Anniversary Edition model. Different from the brand’s signature Soul Red, this colour makes use of Mazda’s exclusive Takuminuri painting technology to produce a “precise, high-quality paint finish as if applied by the hands of a skilled craftsman.”

The lower-end models must make do with black and burgundy leather upholstery, while the 20th Anniversary Edition receives tan-colored leather seats inside.

The flagship 20th Anniversary Edition also has a number of extra creature comforts not seen in the cheaper variations, such as a new seven-inch multi-info display, a rear window sunshade, and seat ventilation for the front powered seats, which also gets tan-coloured options.

Only the two 2.5L variants are equipped with the head-up display, Bose 11-speaker audio system, powered sunroof, 360-degree surround view monitor, and Mazda’s i-Activsense suite, which includes features like front and rear autonomous emergency braking, Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) with stop and go functionality, as well as Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS).

OUR THOUGHTS

The Mazda 6 has always been one of the best in its class for looks, handling, quality and cost performance, Mazda6 but this new 20th Anniversary edition takes it to the next level. I mean, who doesn’t like tan seats, a bespoke red paint job, and an 11-speaker Bose sound system? And as always the price is extremely competitive.
