Tesla Cybertruck Dipped Into Texas Ocean Waters

An eye-catching sight appeared on a Texas beach this week: Tesla’s long-awaited Cybertruck prototype, charging through the surf of the Gulf of Mexico.

A video posted online on TikTok by u/fastkitkat showed the angular, metallic vehicle plowing down the sandy shore of Port Aransas, with waves lapping at its massive tires. Behind the wheel was a driver for Tesla, seemingly putting the Cybertruck through a weather resistance test.

Most electric vehicles run the risk of short-circuiting if exposed to salt water like this. But Tesla engineers claim they’ve designed the Cybertruck to be watertight. During the beach demo, the prototype showed no issues as it navigated wet sand and gently churning waves.

The unusual scene prompted excitement and skepticism among Tesla fans and critics online. But it was likely a thrill for those catching the Cybertruck cruise by in person.

Tesla began manufacturing the Cybertruck in 2023. The company has touted its super tough stainless steel body as one of the truck’s selling points over conventional pickups. If the Port Aransas test drive is any clue, Tesla may live up to its promises of delivering an EV built for the elements.
