BYD To Officially Launch New Seal In Malaysia On February 23

After BYD Malaysia started a teaser campaign for its upcoming Seal electric sedan last month, we can now bring you news that the Chinese carmaker will officially launch its flagship model in Malaysia on February 23.

The EV will be on exhibit until February 25 at The Exchange TRX, Outdoor at Raintree Plaza, where the ceremonial launch event will take place. Individuals who wish to participate in the ceremony can sign up here.

The new Seal is underpinned by the brand’s e-platform 3.0, and measures 4,800 mm by 1,875 mm by 1,460 mm.

Available in three different grades (Dynamic, Premium, and Performance), this model has a single rear-wheel drive electric motor generating 204 ps of and 310 Nm of torque. It is connected to a 61.4 kWh LFP Blade battery, which boasts range of 460 km.

The Premium model employs a stronger rear-mounted motor that produces 313 ps and 360 Nm, as well as a bigger 82.5 kWh battery that delivers 570 km of range. At the top of the lineup is the Performance spec which generates 530 ps and 670 Nm and is powered by an all-wheel-drive twin motor setup capable of traveling 520 kilometres between charges.

The Seal’s award-winning design was inspired by the ocean, and as a result, the body incorporates a slim coupe-like form and a sporty front fascia. Three prominent design features include an upturned ducktail, a low-profile bonnet, and dual waistlines. Details like the “Surging Wave” dashboard, the water drop-shaped interior fastenings, and the crystal gear shift lever within all exemplify the Ocean Aesthetics ideology.

This new BYD EV is expected to have a number of cutting-edge features, such as a head-up display, dual-zone climate control, a 15.6-inch rotating infotainment system, a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, heated and ventilated power-adjustable front seats, a heated steering wheel, and an extensive list of state-of-the-art safety technologies.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

BYD has already launched two compact electric crossovers in the Atto 3 and Dolphin, but the sporty Seal sedan is by far the Chinese brand’s best-looking vehicle so far. It also boasts the best performance, most stylish interior and will knock horns with the likes of the Tesla Model 3. We can also expect the Seal to offer charging capabilities that allow it to charge from 10%-80% in around 20 minutes. Watch out for the official unveiling on Feb 23 when BYD will announce pricing.
