Lucid Is Adopting North American Charging Standard (NACS)

Lucid Motors recently declared its commitment to adopting the North American Charging Standard (NACS), aiming to enhance the charging experience for its customers across the continent. The move is set to revolutionize access to charging networks, offering greater convenience and accessibility to over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers throughout North America by 2025.

As part of this initiative, Lucid plans to integrate the North American Charging Standard into its forthcoming vehicle models by 2025. For current Lucid vehicles equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS), an adapter will facilitate access to the Tesla Supercharger network by the same year.

Peter Rawlinson, the CEO and CTO of Lucid, emphasized the significance of this shift, stating, “Adopting NACS is an important next step to providing our customers with expanded access to reliable and convenient charging solutions for their Lucid vehicles.” He further added, “We believe that a unified charging standard, supported by the nationwide deployment of future-ready higher-voltage charging stations, will be a critical step in empowering American consumers to embrace electric vehicles.”

The move aligns with the growing trend in the automotive industry towards standardized charging solutions. Recently, Toyota also announced its adoption of NACS, scheduled to begin in 2025. However, Volkswagen Group (including VW, Audi, Porsche) remains the sole major automaker yet to adopt the standard.

The embrace of the North American Charging Standard by Lucid and other major manufacturers underscores the industry’s push towards a standardized and user-friendly electric vehicle charging infrastructure, promoting greater accessibility and convenience for consumers.
