Cybertruck’s Impressive Towing Specs: Here Is How It Compares

As electric trucks start hitting the market, automakers are touting impressive towing capacities and payload limits to match or beat comparable gas-powered trucks.

Tesla’s long-awaited Cybertruck is slated to begin deliveries on November 30th. Ahead of that date, Tesla has placed the futuristic pickup in showrooms nationwide. Recently released specs indicate the Cybertruck boasts a maximum tow rating of 11,000 pounds and a maximum payload of 2,500 pounds.

The Cybertruck tow rating matches specifications of the Rivian R1T pickup, rated to tow up to 11,000 pounds. Rivian lists a maximum payload of 1,764 pounds for the R1T.

Ford’s F-150 Lightning all-electric truck can tow up to 10,000 pounds, with a maximum payload of 2,235 pounds.

Our Thoughts

If Tesla can deliver the Cybertruck at price points competitive with legacy automakers, the distinctive truck should prove popular with truck buyers eager to switch to electric while retaining truck utility. Impressive capability numbers for electric pickups suggest few compromises compared with their gas-powered counterparts.
