Is The Tesla Cybertruck Overpriced Or Overengineered?

Many are mad at Tesla for the price of newly revealed Cybertruck. But are they being fair? Did Tesla overpromised in the initial launch event?

So, let’s compare it to the Ford F-150 Lightning. XLT version is not comparable to the Tesla Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive because the XLT only has cloth seats.

For a more accurate comparison, we should consider the Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat with leather seats, which starts at  $69,995, but only 240 miles of range and 5,000 pounds of towing capacity.

And to be comparable, you need to add the extended battery for $7,500, which increases the range to 320 miles and the towing capacity to 7,700 pounds. That brings the total price to $77,495. You can then add the Max Trailer Tow Package for $1,600 to increase the towing capacity to 10,000 pounds. That brings the total price to $79,095.

The Tesla Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive starts at $79,990 and has a range of 340 miles, a 0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds, and a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. It also has 17.44 inches of ground clearance.

So, as you can see, the Tesla Cybertruck is actually priced competitively with the Ford F-150 Lightning Lariat.

In addition to its performance and range, the Cybertruck boasts a number of innovative features that set it apart from the competition. It is the first production vehicle to utilize a 48-volt electrical architecture, which is more efficient.

Additionally, the Cybertruck features an 800-volt architecture, which facilitates even faster charging speeds.

Another groundbreaking feature is the Cybertruck’s drive-by-wire technology, which eliminates the need for traditional mechanical linkages between the steering wheel, pedals, and wheels. This cutting-edge technology enhances vehicle responsiveness and allows for advanced driver-assistance features. And, no, Lexus is still working on their version of drive by wire.

The Tesla Cybertruck is not a cheap truck, but it is packed with cutting-edge technology. Whether it offers good value for money is a question you’ll need to answer for yourself. Consider your needs, priorities, and budget before making a decision.
