Cadillac All-Electric LYRIQ SUV: Worth the Price?

Cadillac has taken the wraps off its highly anticipated LYRIQ all-electric SUV, representing the luxury brand’s electrified future. The 2024 LYRIQ brings jaw-dropping futuristic design, segment-leading tech, and up to 314 miles of EPA-estimated range on a single charge.

Sitting on General Motors’ new Ultium battery platform, the LYRIQ will be offered in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations packing 340HP and 500HP respectively. The 102kWh battery enables DC fast charging rates up to 190kW, adding 77 miles of range in just 10 minutes.

Beyond performance, the LYRIQ looks to set new standards for in-car tech. The stunning 33-inch LED display runs the length of the dashboard, bringing a billion customizable color options. An AKG 19-speaker audio system provides an immersive listening experience. Cadillac also equips the LYRIQ with the latest active noise cancellation tech and integrated Google services like Maps, Assistant and Play.

With a starting MSRP of $58,590, the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ positions itself as a leader in the burgeoning luxury EV marketplace. Certain trims may qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit. Cadillac also backs the LYRIQ with an 8 year/100,000 mile electric vehicle propulsion battery limited warranty, underscoring its confidence.

Our Thoughts

While the new LYRIQ SUV certainly looks the part with its visually-striking exterior and opulent hand-crafted interior overflowing with premium materials and technology, the elephant in the room is whether all that luxury truly warrants its $15,000 price premium over the Tesla Model Y; Cadillac is betting heavily that buyers will value the promised serene, pampering ride experience, brand cachet and feature set exclusivity at this lofty price point, but it remains to be seen if the execution matches the model’s ultra-luxury ambition, especially with Tesla rivaling it on performance and high-tech appeal despite costing thousands less.
