BMW Unveils Special Edition Manual Transmission 2025 Z4 M40i

BMW has announced the launch of the 2025 BMW Z4 M40i with a new 6-speed manual transmission option. This marks the first time a manual gearbox has been offered on the Z4 M40i model.

The manual transmission is part of a $3,500 package that also includes unique suspension tuning, staggered 19″/20″ wheels, exterior styling elements, and special interior trim options.

Power still comes from the familiar 3.0L TwinPower Turbo straight-six making 382 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. However, now buyers can opt for a third pedal and do-it-yourself gear changes. BMW says the manual model hits 60 mph in 4.2 seconds on its way to a limited top speed of 155 mph.

This special edition model revives BMW’s tradition pairing an inline-6 engine with a manual gearbox in their roadsters. It provides drivers with a heightened connection between car and driver for an exhilarating open-air experience.

Other package highlights:

  • Choice of 7 metallic paint colors plus Alpine White
  • San Remo Green exclusive to the manual model
  • Frozen Deep Green BMW Individual special color, $2950 option
  • 5 available Vernasca leather interior color schemes
  • Unique black alloy wheels, 19″ front/20″ rear

The 2025 Z4 M40i manual package will be available globally when the updated roadster goes on sale in March 2024. Pricing is expected to be similar to the current Z4 M40i which starts at $67,295.

Our Thoughts

It’s interesting to see BMW going against the grain by offering a manual transmission on the new Z4 M40i model. This shows that they are prioritizing driving enjoyment over outright speed, as manual shifting is generally slower than automatics these days. However, for driving purists who value driver engagement over split-second shifts, this special edition Z4 delivers the ultimate hands-on experience.
