Conquer Every Road: The 2024 Lexus GX

The newly redesigned 2024 Lexus GX brings significant upgrades while retaining the capability and quality the model is known for. With two new Overtrail trims oriented toward off-roading, the latest GX doubles down on its prowess away from paved roads.

Under the hood, a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 puts out a muscular 349 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, increases over the previous V8. It comes mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, 21 mpg on the highway. Towing capacity rises to 8,000 pounds in most models. A hybrid powertrain will also be available later.

Off-road, the GX continues to excel with available torque-vectoring differentials, a sophisticated Multi-Terrain Select system, and generous approach/departure angles. The off-road focused Overtrail models add electronically locking differentials and adaptive, disconnecting stabilizer bars for increased articulation.

On pavement, an all-new platform and revised suspension aim for better stability and comfort without compromising ruggedness. The GX also gets updated tech like a standard 14-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, cloud-based navigation, and Lexus Interface with intelligent assistant.

Every model comes equipped with the latest Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite of active safety features like pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, and lane keeping assist. New additions include risk avoidance emergency steering and traffic jam assist for low-speed driving.

With seating for up to seven passengers, the GX balances daily livability with its adventurous spirit. An easy-access lift-gate and kick sensor aid cargo loading. Luxurious trim options range from NuLuxe faux leather to semi-aniline leather, complementing the horizontal instrument panel opening up visibility.

Base pricing lands at $64,250, with six grades topping out around $81,250. The new 2024 Lexus GX arrives at dealerships in early 2024 as a compelling option for buyers wanting a refined yet rugged SUV.

Reasons to Buy:

1. Robust Towing and Hauling: With a maximum towing capacity of 8,000 pounds, the 2024 GX offers impressive hauling capabilities for work and recreation needs.

2. Off-Road Prowess: The GX excels off-road with features like torque-vectoring differentials, Multi-Terrain Select system, and generous approach/departure angles. The Overtrail models take it even further for extreme terrain.

3. Safety and Technology Upgrades: The comprehensive Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 and cloud-based navigation ensure a high-tech and secure driving experience.

Reasons to Hold Off:

1. Price May Be Prohibitive: With a starting MSRP of $64,250, the GX positions itself at a relatively high price point compared to some competitors. This may deter budget-conscious buyers.

2. No Hybrid Option Yet: The lack of a hybrid powertrain at launch is a drawback for buyers focused on fuel efficiency and eco-friendliness.

3. Comfort Tradeoffs Possible: Despite efforts to improve on-road comfort, the balance with off-road capability may result in a firmer overall ride that some drivers may find too harsh.
