Elon Musk’s Latest Comments On Compact Tesla Model 2

Elon Musk has been discussing plans for Tesla’s upcoming compact electric vehicle, tentatively named the Model 2, with manufacturing consultant Sandy Munro. The Model 2 aims to be a high-volume $25,000 EV that will revolutionize automotive production.

According to Musk, the Model 2 is far along in the development process. He reviews production plans for the model on a weekly basis, emphasizing that the manufacturing techniques will be unlike any existing automotive production line today.

The Model 2 will be built at Tesla’s new Texas factory, as establishing a factory in Mexico would take too long. However, Musk indicates a second factory in Mexico could follow later to expand production capacity.

Our Thoughts

Enthusiasts of Tesla have good reason to be excited about the company’s new compact car, given the enormous market potential outside of the United States.

The Model 2 represents Tesla’s vision for a truly mass-market, affordable electric vehicle that will demonstrate major advancements in manufacturing, cost reduction and production volumes for EVs. More details are likely to emerge as the launch timeline for the model approaches.
