New 805-HP 2024 Mercedes-AMG SL63 S E Performance Debuts With Electrified V8 Powertrain

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the new 2024 SL63 S E Performance, the most powerful iteration yet of the iconic SL roadster. This new model features an advanced hybrid powertrain with a total system output of 805 horsepower and up to 1,047 lb-ft of torque, enabling blistering acceleration from 0-60 mph in just 2.8 seconds.

At the heart of the SL63 S E Performance is a handcrafted 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine rated at 603 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. Combined with a 201-hp electric motor placed within the 9-speed automatic transmission at the rear axle, the total output reaches 805 hp. Power comes from a 6.1 kWh high-performance lithium-ion battery inspired by Formula 1 hybrid technology.

The positioning of the electric motor and battery over the rear axle helps optimize the SL63’s weight distribution. The instant torque from the motor also aids acceleration, while the ability to frequently draw high power from the battery increases overall dynamic performance. Mercedes says driving ranges primarily focused on delivering maximum power rather than range.

Further aiding performance is a range of advanced engineering features fitted as standard. This includes rear-wheel steering, AMG Active Ride Control adaptive suspension with active roll stabilization, and a high-performance ceramic composite brake system. An active rear spoiler and special underbody aerodynamic elements also feature.

Visually, the E Performance model stands out through its charging port door rear badge, “E Performance” front fender script, and unique twin trapezoidal exhaust tips. Extensive personalization options are available inside and out through the Mercedes MANUFAKTUR program.

Mercedes-Benz says the SL63 S E Performance will hit US dealerships in 2024, cementing the SL’s status as a pinnacle sports car blending performance with cutting-edge electrified powertrain technology.
