New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Debuts In Malaysia With Petrol And PHEV Models

With the launch of the sixth-generation E-Class, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has given the luxury sedan market in the nation a new lease on life. The German company’s most recent E-Class combines cutting-edge technology and contemporary design with the brand’s iconic quality and refinement. It is one of the last internal combustion engine (ICE) models before the firm switches to a somewhat electrified lineup.

The models available at launch will be the E200 and E350e with each catering to a distinct market niche. It’s interesting to note that the E350e shares many of the same specs as the global E300e model.

The E-Class, which is scheduled to land in Malaysian showrooms this week, is still the go-to model in its segment. Customers can select between a more eco-conscious hybrid option or a more conventional petrol-powered E200 mild-hybrid (MHEV) and E350 plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models, which offer a well-thought-out balance of performance and sustainability.

The new E-Class is larger than the previous model, measuring 4,949 mm in total length and 1,880 mm in width. With a wheelbase that has been extended to 2,961 mm, it offers greater interior room and comfort for rear seat passengers while preserving a sporty, dynamic outward design. Its 540-liter trunk capacity emphasises even more how useful it is for daily usage.

The sixth-generation E-Class, externally speaking, fills the void left by Mercedes-Benz’s current ICE lineup with its all-electric EQ series. Its distinctive design elements, such the redesigned radiator grille with the signature three pointed star and the smooth black panel that unifies the grille, make this clear. The absence of an illuminated grille is unfortunate for the Malaysian market, but it may be a blessing in disguise because some have thought it to be over the top.

Inside, the E-Class impresses with an array of state-of-the-art features including Digital Vehicle Key system, and is compatible with iPhone and Apple Watch, allowing up to 16 individuals to share access to the vehicle. Mercedes-Benz has also equipped the cabin with the new MBUX Superscreen, which supports popular applications such as TikTok, Zoom, Angry Birds, and Webex.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The new E-Class is definitely a leader in its segment, and luckily comes with some fresh new design elements — that distinguish the series from Mercedes’ controversially styled electric EQ range. And by offering a petrol version and a PHEV, MB is catering to whichever way a potential client swings. And in 2024, and beyond, that’s where they need to be.
