NIO’s ET9 Sets New EV Standard with Ultra-Fast Charging and Swapping

NIO Day, an annual gathering of NIO and its users, was successfully held in Xi’an with the theme of “A New Journey” this year. Over 2,000 NIO users participated in event planning, stage performances, and hospitalities, and more than 10,000 users attended the event at Xi’an Olympic Sports Center Stadium.

At NIO Day 2023, NIO ET9, a smart electric executive flagship, officially debuted. With strategic investment in core smart EV technologies, NIO ET9 integrates the latest R&D achievements, showcasing a sophisticated exterior, spacious interior, immersive experience, efficient recharging, and smart technologies. Designed for high-end business users, NIO ET9 offers a comfortable, safe, and technologically advanced executive flagship.

With dimensions of 5,325mm x 2,016mm x 1,620mm and a 3,250mm wheelbase, NIO ET9 has a strong stance. The four-seat layout includes “Sky Island” and “Executive Bridge” for exclusive first-class comfort. The versatile 360-degree tray table and maximum 45-degree backrest adjustment create a benchmark for rear seat comfort.

NIO ET9 integrates over 100 NIO technologies, including 17 world-firsts and 52 leading technologies, setting a new EV benchmark. The SkyRide Intelligent Chassis System combines steer-by-wire, rear-wheel steering, and active suspension for a smooth ride. NIO ET9 features China’s first 900V Full-Domain Architecture, enabling 925V ultra-fast charging and battery swapping. This enables a 3-minute battery swap for instant full range or adding 255km (158mi) of range from just a 5-minute charge.

Powered by the Adam 2.0 super computing platform, NIO ET9 supports intelligent driving, digital cockpit, chassis, body, powertrain, and cloud computing functions. The 5nm NX9031 automotive chip enables advanced driver assistance capabilities. SkyOS, NIO’s vehicle OS, clusters key vehicle system control.

Following aviation standards, NIO ET9 has redundancies across seven key EV systems for maximum safety. NIO ET9 is available for pre-order in China, delivering early 2025, and starts around 800,000 yuan ($112,780).

NIO also launched the 640kW Liquid Cooled Power Charger and fourth-generation Power Swap Stations compatible across brands, reducing swap time by 22%. By 2024, NIO will build 1,000 swap stations and 20,000 chargers.

In November, NIO delivered 15,959 vehicles, up 12.6% year-over-year, reaching 142,026 deliveries year-to-date 2023, up 33.1%, and total deliveries of 431,582.

Our Thoughts

It is promising to see NIO providing customers flexibility through both ultra-fast charging and even faster battery swapping. The ability to add substantial range in just minutes, whether by charging or swapping, gives drivers more options to suit their needs and style. As demonstrated at NIO Day, the company remains dedicated to delivering exceptional EV technology and experiences. This customer-centric approach with advanced charging and swapping capabilities bodes well for NIO’s continued growth.
