Rivian’s Affordable Electric SUV Coming Soon: Here is What We Know

Exciting news for fans of electric vehicles – Rivian has plans to reveal its highly-anticipated R2 SUV on March 7, 2024 in Laguna Beach. The city recently approved Rivian’s request to use a portion of Main Beach Park for a special product launch event to showcase the automaker’s new affordable battery-powered SUV.

Rivian made waves in late 2023 when it reopened the historic Laguna South Coast Cinemas movie theater and transformed it into the company’s first flagship retail space. Now it seems Laguna Beach will also host the global premiere of Rivian’s smaller and more budget-friendly R2 electric SUV.

While Rivian’s launch R1S and R1T electric trucks both cost over $73,000 and $78,000 respectively, the upcoming R2 will be priced between $40,000 to $60,000 – aiming for a much wider mainstream audience than Rivian’s current offerings.

On March 7, the world will get its first look at Rivian’s vision for an affordable, long-range electric SUV – quite fittingly taking place along the beautiful Southern California coastline. As Rivian’s one and only R2 launch location, Laguna Beach will provide a picturesque backdrop for the global premier of what the automaker hopes will be a category-defining model. The R2 may be Rivian’s most important model yet.
