VinFast’s VF 3 Electric SUV Heading to the US

Vietnamese automaker VinFast has announced plans to bring its VF 3 electric mini SUV to the United States market in 2025. The move comes at the request of VinFast’s US dealerships, who believe the small and affordable EV could appeal to budget-conscious American consumers.

The VF 3 is designed specifically for urban transportation in congested cities. With a targeted driving range of over 125 miles per full charge, this practical four-seater aims to deliver comfort while maintaining optimal maneuverability on city streets.

VinFast opened VF 3 orders in September 2023 and deliver the first vehicles in the third quarter of 2024 in Vietnam. The VF 3 will come in two trims – Eco and Plus – but exact pricing details have not yet been released.

Our Thoughts

Industry experts believe the VF 3 could compete with entry-level EVs like the $28,000 Nissan Leaf if VinFast can hit its sub $25,000 target price point. The move may also positions VinFast to beat segment leaders Tesla and BYD in offering an affordable electric car under $25,000.

With practicality, maneuverability and a budget-friendly price tag, the VF 3 may offer an appealing option for American drivers looking to make the switch to electric without breaking the bank. VinFast’s push into the US signals an ambition to compete head-on with established players in the rapidly growing EV market.
