2024 Lexus RZ: Luxury Electric SUV

Lexus has announced several updates to its RZ electric crossover lineup for the 2024 model year, including a new front-wheel drive version with increased range.

The RZ 300e FWD model is powered by a 72.8 kWh battery from CATL and has an EPA-estimated range of 266 miles with 18-inch wheels or 224 miles with 20-inch wheels. The all-wheel drive RZ 450e still uses a 71.4 kWh battery and has 220 miles of range with 18-inch wheels or 196 miles with 20-inch wheels.

All 2024 RZ models now come standard with a dual-voltage charging cable that works on both 120V and 240V outlets, providing more flexibility for charging at home. Lexus says the RZ can charge from 0% to 100% in about 9.5 hours using a Level 2 charger or go from 0% to 80% in 30-35 minutes with a DC fast charger.

New exterior color options for 2024 include Copper Crest, available in both mono-tone and two-tone configurations. Other updates include illuminated front badging that indicates charging status and incorporates a radar sensor, as well as a horizontal rear design with full-width “LEXUS” lettering.

Inside, the RZ features a minimalist cabin focused on the driver, with a standard 14-inch touchscreen, dial-type electronic shifter and seating for five. Available amenities include a panoramic glass roof, wireless phone charging, heated front seats with radiant heaters, 13-speaker Mark Levinson audio and a 10-inch head-up display.

All RZ crossovers are equipped with the latest Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite of active safety features. New driving aids include Risk Avoidance Emergency Steer Assist, Left Turn Oncoming Vehicle Detection/Braking, Curve Speed Management and Proactive Driving Assist.

Lexus says the 2024 RZ is built in Japan and available now, pricing starts at $55,150.

Our Thoughts

With a 0-60mph time of 5 seconds and a starting price of $55k, the RZ offers up to 266 miles of range on a charge. However, many shoppers may find themselves cross-shopping the RZ with the cheaper, faster, longer-range Tesla Model Y, which boasts over 300 miles of range. But the Lexus brand is known for its reliability, which could be a key factor that attracts potential buyers.
