2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: The Legendary Off-Road SUV Goes Hybrid for Improved MPG

Toyota has taken the wraps off a completely redesigned version of its iconic Land Cruiser SUV for the 2024 model year. The new Land Cruiser features major changes under the hood, including a new twin-turbo V6 hybrid powertrain producing 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. This allows it to tow up to 6,000 pounds.

The full-time 4WD system comes with center and rear diff locks, while off-road enhancements like Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select provide improved traction on rough terrain. Ground clearance has been increased to 8.7 inches. Toyota claims optimized approach, departure and breakover angles for better off-road maneuverability.

While touted as more capable off-road, Toyota has also added comfort and technology amenities to improve on-road drivability. Available features include heated and ventilated front seats, 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and 14-speaker JBL audio.

From a styling perspective, the 2024 Land Cruiser draws inspiration from heritage models but with a modern touch. It will be offered in a variety of color options.

The return of the Land Cruiser after a short absence aims to satisfy both off-road enthusiasts and families looking for a rugged yet comfortable daily driver. With significant changes under the skin and a balance of new tech and classic styling cues, the 2024 Land Cruiser looks to continue the model’s 60+ year reputation as an off-road icon.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The newly unveiled 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser looks to be a fantastic value at its $56,000 MSRP. This venerable SUV now features Toyota’s proven hybrid powertrain for better fuel efficiency, while still retaining the Land Cruiser’s legendary off-road capabilities.

Families will appreciate the premium comfort, quality, and roomy seating for up to 5 passengers. Along with the latest tech and safety features, it continues to stand out as a highly capable vehicle perfect for both on and off-road driving.

For residents of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia and Indonesia, this vehicle will be known as the Land Cruiser Prado.
