Toyota just lifted the veil on the all-new 2025 4Runner, revealing a thoroughly redesigned iteration of its legendary off-road SUV. The sixth-generation 4Runner stays true to its roots as an extremely capable and durable adventure vehicle, while adding modern technology, premium materials, and enhanced safety features.
“This all-new 4Runner has incredible versatility and capability that nicely rounds out our truck family story,” said Dave Christ, Toyota group vice president and general manager. “With over 3 million sold in 40 years, this model retains the rugged style and capability our customers love but offers a cool new look and incredible features.”
Built Tough on Toyota’s TNGA-F Truck Platform
The 2025 4Runner rides on Toyota’s tough TNGA-F global truck platform shared with Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Tundra and Sequoia. This utilizes a high-strength boxed, steel-ladder frame with a multi-link coil rear and double wishbone front suspension for improved ride comfort and on-road handling. The enhanced frame allows a towing capacity up to 6,000 pounds when paired with the potent i-FORCE MAX powertrain.
Striking New Design Inspired by Desert Racing
Designed by Toyota’s Michigan-based Calty studio team, the 2025 4Runner draws inspiration from desert racing with a rugged, athletic stance. Highlights include a high lift, lean body, large tires and nods to previous generations like the “wrap over” quarter glass and roll-down rear window.
Powerful i-FORCE MAX Hybrid Powertrain
The 2025 4Runner offers two powerful turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine choices. Standard is the i-FORCE with 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque paired to an eight-speed automatic. The available i-FORCE MAX hybrid pairs the turbo engine with a 48-hp electric motor for a potent 326 hp and 465 lb-ft – the most powerful 4Runner powertrain ever.
Trail-Conquering Capability
True to its off-road heritage, the new 4Runner boasts incredible trail capability. A new Stabilizer Bar Disconnect adds suspension articulation at the push of a button. Approach and departure angles are up to 32 and 24 degrees respectively. Available features like the Multi-Terrain Monitor system, full-time 4WD with locking center differential, electronic locking rear diff, Multi-Terrain Select, and CRAWL Control enhance the 4Runner’s go-anywhere talents.
Nine Grades Including the Turnkey Trailhunter Overlander
The 2025 4Runner expands its grade lineup from SR5 to the first-ever premium Platinum trim. But the spotlight model is the new Trailhunter – a turnkey overlanding rig fitted with components from ARB, Old Man Emu and RIGID. It includes 33-inch Toyo tires, OME shocks with rear remotes, a roof rack, rock rails, skid plates, a low air intake, and LED auxiliary lighting.
Toyota’s Latest Tech and Safety
All 4Runners come standard with Toyota’s latest Audio Multimedia system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto on an 8-inch or available 14-inch touchscreen. Higher trims get digital instrumentation and other premium tech like a Head-Up Display and Digital Key. Toyota’s upgraded Safety Sense 3.0 suite is also standard with emergency driver monitoring.
