New Tesla Model 3 Finally Launched in Malaysia

The eagerly awaited all-electric Tesla Model 3 has finally made its Malaysian debut as Tesla Malaysia’s second model. Preceding the official introduction here this month, bookings had already opened for the EV in September. The Model 3 is available in two configurations, with costs beginning at RM 189,000.

The facelifted “Highland” model of the Model 3 with its sleeker-looking headlights, front bumper surround, and taillights is the spec making its debut in Malaysia. Even though Tesla claims that this facelift has modified around 50% of the Tesla Model 3, other outward features still seem almost identical.

Similar to the Model Y, the Model 3 comes with the barest essentials before you start adding options. This just covers the hue “Pearl White Multi Coat” for the body and the interior. However, let’s first have a look at the two Tesla Model 3 versions before moving on to the basic and optional components.

The Rear-Wheel Drive model, with a range of 513 km, is the most economical option available for the Model 3. It completes 0-100 km/h run to 6.1 seconds and is powered by a single electric motor that is situated at the rear.

As implied by its name, the Long Range AWD boasts a longer electric range of 629 km. It also has dual-motor all-wheel drive, which enables the vehicle to sprint from 0-100 km/h race in 4.4 seconds.

Both the Rear Wheel Drive and Long Range All-Wheel Drive versions of the come with standard exterior features including 18-inch Photon Wheels and pearl white multi-coat paint. Customers will pay between RM5,000 to RM11,000 extra for bespoke paintwork where the ultra-red hue costs RM11,000.

Inside, the dashboard has been redesigned to update the cabin employing ambient lighting at the base of the windscreen and a new design for the trim that runs the width of the dashboard. Standard interior fittings include black upholstery, a 15.4-inch head unit, an 8-inch rear touchscreen, wireless phone charging, and ventilated seats. As you might expect the new Model 3 comes with safety features such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Blind Spot Collision Warning and Lane Departure Avoidance. You will pay RM16,000 more for enhanced AutoPilot and RM32,000 for full self-driving capability.

OUR THOUGHTS

Looking sharper with its revised front end and tail light design, the long-awaited Model 3 is sure to get off to a strong start with customers lining up at showroom doors. Boasting class-leading performance, charging and range capabilities, Tesla’s second model is certain to get off to a flying start.
