New Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 Finally Launched In Malaysia

The long-awaited Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 4MATIC has finally been introduced in Malaysia. Costing RM699,888 on the road, the luxury crossover made its debut in Malaysia at this year’s Merdeka Parade while sporting a livery featuring a Merdeka livery.

The EQS SUV has chrome faux skid plate features, an LED front grille, and gloss black exterior trim while the brand’s AMG Line option is also destined for the Malaysian market.

The 5-door consists of additional gloss black components as well as the distinctive bone-shaped air intakes up front, wider two-tone wheels, fake exhaust tips at the back, plus a number of other bespoke features.

The Malaysian-spec EQS SUV 580 4MATIC’s exterior kit incorporates LED headlights and tail lights, an AMG Line package and 22-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels.

On the performance side, the EQS 580 uses a 108.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, that helps to generate total output of 544hp and 858 Nm of torque. It also features a dual-motor configuration that provides power to all four wheels, with range reaching a class-topping 615 km (WLTP).

The EQS SUV may be charged at a rate of up to 11 kW AC—juicing up from 10-80% in 11 hours, while at 22 kW AC,  the Mercedes will fully charge from empty to full in just five hours. It can also accept up to 220 kW of DC fast charging, which can charge the SUV from 10-80% in just 31 minutes.

So save on R&D, the EQS SUV is perched on the same EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture) platform as the EQS sedan. It is 91 mm shorter though because there isn’t a boot compartment at the back.

Employing rear-axle steering, the Malaysian-spec EQS SUV has a seven-seat interior with a 2-3-2 seating configuration. Inside as you might expect, the EQS has the brand’s signature MBUX Hyperscreen which is comprised of three separate screens housed in a single pane of glass that stretches across the cabin from door to door. This features a 17.7-inch main display, a 12.3-inch monitor for the front passenger, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

OUR THOUGHTS

This EQS SUV joins Mercedes Malaysia’s lineup with a significant package of goodies—boasting a 544hp drivetrain, 615km of range, quick charging inside of 31 minutes, and the brand’s signature MBUX Hyperscreen. Anyone wanting a class-leading luxury electric SUV could not go wrong with this gem. The only bottleneck though might be the RM700,000 price tag.
