The MG HS SUV will join its cousin, the MG5 this year MG Malaysia has revealed. The MG HS Standard and the MG HS Lux are its two available versions with prices starting below RM150,000, according to MG Motor Malaysia.

The HS sits on a 2,720 mm wheelbase and has dimensions of 4,574 mm in length, 1,876 mm in width, and 1,664 mm in height. It has independent multi-link rear suspension with a stabiliser bar and MacPherson strut at the front with a stabiliser bar.

The HS’s exterior features include roof rails, a rear spoiler, LED tail lamps, automated LED headlights with daytime running lights (DRLs), and 17-inch alloy wheels. A panoramic roof, a powered tailgate, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, front ventilated disc brakes with red brake calipers that are unique to the Lux model.

A 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged direct injection engine produces 162 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque. Power is only sent to the front wheels using a 7-speed twin-clutch gearbox (DCT) which allows the HS to jump from zero to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 190 km/h.

The HS’s cabin employs a 4-way power-adjustable front passenger seat, a 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, a 7-inch multi-info display, a 10.1-inch head unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 4-speaker sound system, and four USB ports as standard. Panoramic sunroof, 12.3-inch virtual display, sports seats, paddle shifters, sports pedals, 6-speaker sound system, 64-theme ambient lighting, and dual-zone climate control are features that are exclusive to the Lux model.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The HS looks like giving its rivals a real run for their money thanks to its sharp looks and efficient turbo engine—enabling this brand to appeal to customers wanting standard petrol power or full EVs. With its aesthetically appealing and competitively built EVs, MG has been making a name for itself, especially in Europe where it has been picking up car awards like the recent Best Cars of the Year’s ‘Best Sportscar of the Year’ for the MG Cyberster awarded at last weekend’s British Motor Show. Expect a lot more from MG soon.
