New Ford Ranger XLT Plus Special Edition Debuts in Malaysia

Ford’s only distributor in Malaysia, Sime Darby Auto ConneXion (SDAC), has debuted the new XLT Plus Special Edition, a new limited edition Ford Ranger model. The 300-unit-only Special Edition, which comes with a number of minor equipment and visual mods, costs RM143,888 on-the-road. This is a slight increase of RM1,000 above the standard XLT Plus.

The new Special Edition model, as its name implies, is based on the Ford Ranger XLT Plus, which debuted in Malaysia two years ago. The company claims that the SE’s new massive fender flares, protective bar and exterior decals painted matte black give the pickup truck a ‘bold, aggressive appearance’.

Only the new illuminated LED Ranger scuff plates and pull-out cupholders beneath the front air vents—the latter a big favourite among pickup owners—are the more subdued interior upgrades.

Apart from these modifications, the truck’s exterior remains unchanged as does the  2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine, which produces 210 hp and 500 Nm of torque, and I s mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox and has a part-time four-wheel drive system.

The utilitarian dashboard still features the same 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display in portrait mode, which is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Additional interior features include a Qi wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate control, and a digital instrument cluster.

The Ranger XLT Plus Special Edition will be on display at the Ford Experience Hub during the launch celebrations, which will take place from September 25–29, 2024, at Setia City Mall in Selangor. As an added bonus, the first 20 clients to successfully reserve the limited-edition vehicle via SDAC’s online booking system will get petrol  credits valued at RM3,000.

Commenting on the debut, SDAC Managing Director Turse Zuhair said, “The XLT Plus Special Edition is tailored for discerning drivers who demand the best in performance, style and functionality. This vehicle will further reinforce our role as a leader in the nation’s pick-up truck segment.”

CARLIST THOUGHTS

As a limited edition of this popular pickup, we expect this XLT Plus SE variant to be scooped up by off-loading fans who need top-level performance and handling wrapped in a tough, macho package that looks ready for any occasion. And the price seems perfect for those wanting to invest in an off-roader that should hold its value.
