One of the world’s top three customizing shows is headed back to Kuala Lumpur again this year in November. The Tokyo Auto Salon ranks up there with SEMA in the U.S. and the Essen Auto Show in Germany as one of the world’s most important tuning shows.
The Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) will host the return of the world-famous Tokyo Auto Salon to Kuala Lumpur from November 8-10.
For the record, the official Tokyo Auto Show, held every January at the Makuhari Messe complex, 30 minutes east of Tokyo, attracts the cream of Japan’s (and the world’s!) customizers and tuners in addition to new car releases from major carmakers. The 2019 Tokyo Auto Salon, for example, featured 906 vehicles, 426 exhibitors, and 4,175 booths that offered aftermarket accessories for purchase. The show also features after-market parts manufacturers, custom shops, care manufacturers, automotive businesses, and automotive vocational schools.
One of the more popular forms of entertainment at TAS each year are the so-called ‘companions’ or “booth babes” who are popular with spectators and photographers alike. “Booth babes” tend to have a following of fans from various other auto shows throughout the year.
This November, Kuala Lumpur can look forward to the best Tokyo Auto Salon in Malaysia since before the pandemic. With more than 300 modified automobiles on exhibit, including 15 amazing cars imported straight from Japan, this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon is expected to be even larger than the one last year. From meetings of famous automobile clubs and spectacular drifting performances to presentations by well-known tuners like Veilside, Trust/Greddy, Option, Liberty Walk, Tomica, San Ei Corporation, and Top Secret’s Smoky Nagata, attendees can enjoy a wide range of fascinating exhibits.
Tickets normally cost RM60 per day or RM120 for a three-day pass. Children under six enter free of charge, while those between the ages of six and twelve can purchase tickets for RM30 each day or RM60 for a three-day pass. Persons with disabilities and one caregiver are eligible for a 50% ticket price reduction. Express Lane passes are offered for RM80 per day for individuals who want faster admission. For RM150 per day, VIP permits that grant entry to a VIP lounge are also offered.
With an extra RM28 on top of their ticket purchase, all 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon Kuala Lumpur attendees will also have the opportunity to win a tuned Honda Civic FK8R Type R Mugen.
