New Fully-Electric MINI Aceman Debuts In Malaysia

MINI’s heritage dates back to 1959, when Sir Alec Issigonis designed the two-door Mini thus creating an icon. The brand is therefore expected to highlight that legendary past whenever discussing its new design language, which they have named “Charismatic Simplicity.” And especially when they’re talking about the MINI Cooper, from which the Aceman has borrowed heavily.

However, in 2024, MINI is facing the challenges of electrification, much like the majority of the car industry. With its goal of a fully electric future by 2035, this is a critical moment for the brand. And with its bold, new look, what better way to start a new chapter for MINI?

The MINI design is instantly recognisable but boasts new sportier accents

Presenting the first-ever all-electric MINI Aceman is a new model in the MINI family that will spearhead the iconic brand’s transition to electric vehicles. With a new design language, a new all-electric drivetrain, and a new Sports Activity Vehicle crossover body shape, the Aceman has broken free from the historical constraints that had been placed on the brand.

Even though, it retains its instantly recognisable MINI identity thanks to the new design language, which simplifies the classic MINI aesthetics to its most basic elements comprising of a simple three-tiered design highlighted by the massive hexagonal grille. This urban crossover is well-proportioned, chunky yet seems ready for business.

The round OLED display, a homage to the circular instrument cluster from the original model in 1959, highlights the interior’s pared-back style, which echoes the Charismatic Simplicity philosophy.

Naturally, the distinctive Go-Kart feature is without doubt one of the highlights as it quietly cheers at you when you select the Go-Kart switch. The entry-level Aceman comes with a 181 hp electric motor driving the front wheels, delivering a 0-100 km/h time of just under 8 seconds. The other version of the Aceman is the SE, which produces 215 hp and cuts the 0-100 sprint time to 7.1 seconds, but we are not sure if that model is being offered yet.

Every aspect of the MINI Aceman is intricately linked to a Go-Kart driving experience, beginning as soon as you strap yourself into the driver’s seat. With a nimble front end, sensitive steering, and a compliant suspension system, the Aceman, like all previous MINIs, is designed to provide the same legendary driving experience that has delighted MINI owners for over 60 years.

As you’d expect the electric motor is super responsive and has no lag with a steering wheel rack that offers little play. Between the Cooper and the Countryman, the all-electric Aceman offers the perfect balance of MINI’s signature agility, adaptability, and daily usability.

On road trips, the Aceman’s caters to five seats—small adults mind you—or two adults and three kids, and the sizable boot area offers enough space for your needs.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

This Iceman has to be one of the best looking MINIs in a long time. It boasts a body that’s compact yet roomy, a grille that’s just the right size and a handling package that delivers thrills and sportiness. But its charging speeds are so-so, it could be quicker in the throttle department and its range could be longer, especially when compared to rivals like Fiat 600e and Hyundai Kona Electric.
