New Porsche Macan Electric Debuts In Malaysia From RM430K

The long-awaited electric Macan is finally here! Just launched in Malaysia, the all-new second-generation Porsche Macan has morphed into an all-electric vehicle (EV) with four variants—the Macan, Macan 4, Macan 4S, and Macan Turbo. The starting price, on-road and without insurance, is RM430,000.

And yes, the firm has retained the naming it initiated with the Taycan — in that even though the model does not actual have a petrol engine or a turbo, Porsche still retains the naming for branding purposes. Kinda makes sense.

The all-new Macan, Porsche’s second EV model and the first in an SUV body style, shares several styling cues with the Taycan, such as the sleek 3D full-width tail light strip and the “four point” daytime-running lights.

With the exception of height, the all-new second-generation Macan has grown in every way. Its sportier stance on the road is a result of an 86 mm increase in wheelbase, while the steeply sloped rear glass, which is also new, gives the Macan a profile that is almost coupe-like. This raked rear window and other active and passive aerodynamic features help the Macan achieve a low drag coefficient of 0.25 Cd, making it one of the most streamlined SUVs on the road today.

All models come with a set of 20-inch alloy wheels as standard, but buyers can also choose the off-road design package, which offers a set of 21-inch wheels and a few rugged design features like side skirts, roof railings, and special bumpers.

Inside, the dashboard has been significantly upgraded and now has three separate screens including a 12.6-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.9-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a 10.9-inch passenger screen. Additionally, there is a head-up display with augmented reality features.

The Voice Pilot voice assistant and other third-party apps that may be downloaded through the Porsche App Centre are supported by the Android Automotive OS that now powers the screens.

The Macan now has more inside capacity because of its longer wheelbase. This includes a larger rear baggage compartment that can now accommodate up to 540 litres, and when the rear seats are folded this grow to 1,348 litres. Additionally, behind the bonnet is an 84-litre frunk, or front storage space.

Exclusive to the Malaysian Porsche Macan is an extended range of standard features including Power Steering Plus, electrically-opening charging cover, 360-degree surround view monitor with Active Parking Support, a four-zone climate control, a 230V power outlet in the luggage compartment, and a premium BOSE Surround Sound System.

The 800V PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform on which the brand’s all-new Porsche Macan sits allows for quick charging of up to 270 kW. All models with the 100 kWh battery pack charge from 10 to 80% in 21 minutes.

The battery pack will effectively divide into two batteries at a 400V charging station, allowing for “simultaneous twin-bank charging” at 400V each. This makes charging up to 135 kW especially efficient. In the meanwhile, 11 kW AC charging is rated using wall boxes found in homes.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

We think there will be a lot of buyers out there who have been waiting for this electric Macan to land in showrooms. Now it has, you have four choices of one of Porsche’s biggest- selling models. Offering the brand’s proven combination of prestige, power and poise, we see long queues forming outside Porsche showrooms in the coming months.
