The Geely EX5—also referred to as the Galaxy EX5 in China—has arrived in Thailand in two spec—the Pro and the Max. The Pro costs THB859,000 (about RM111k) while the Max comes in at THB949,000 (about RM123k). At debut, the Geely EX5 will be wholly imported (CBU) from China, just like its twin, the Proton eMAS7. This launch is the EX5’s first venture into a market outside of China, and we can expect to see it in Malaysia before too long.
Both Geely EX5 models in Thailand have the same powertrain, which consists of a single front-mounted electric motor with 218 horsepower and 320 Nm, specs which mirror that of the future Proton eMAS7. For the Pro and Max versions, this corresponds to 0-100 km/h times of 6.9 and 7.1 seconds, respectively and a top speed for both of 175 km/h.
Interestingly, both versions use the same Geely 60.22 kWh Aegis Short Blade battery, in contrast to Proton’s approach with the eMAS7, which uses a smaller 49.52 kWh pack for the base model. The range of the two variations does, however, vary somewhat.
The Max variant’s lesser range of 490 km (NEDC) is likely caused by its extra weight, which is also reflected in its slightly slower 0-100 sprint time. In contrast, the Pro variation obtains a NEDC-rated range of 495 km.
The Geely EX5 can charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes thanks to its capability for AC charging up to 11 kW and DC fast charging up to 100 kW.
The remaining specs, with the exception of the powertrain, are very similar to those of the next Proton eMAS7. The Geely EX5 is equipped with flush door handles, LED headlights and taillights with a light bar and 18-inch rims wrapped in Giti tires. There are three driving modes: Sport, Normal, and Eco.
Inside, the EX5 has a 16-speaker FlyMe sound system, a 15.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.2-inch digital instrument display for the driver. Both models come equipped with an automatic climate control system with a PM2.5 filter and a wireless charging station.
The Max model includes an powered tailgate, ambient lighting, a driver’s head-up display, a zero-gravity front passenger seat and a panoramic sunroof. There are two colour options for the interior: Cloud White/Black and Dusk Blue/Black.

We expect to see the EX5 here before too long. Nearer to home, Malaysia has officially opened bookings for the next Proton eMAS7 (stylised as e.MAS 7). With a start price of RM120,000, the national automaker’s first completely electric (EV) vehicle will be available in two variants: Prime and Premium.
