New Chery Tiggo Cross Teased At Bangkok Motor Show, Appears Headed To Malaysia

Following its launch in Indonesia last month, the Chery Tiggo Cross—also known as the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro elsewhere—is making its debut at the 46th Bangkok International Motor Show 2025 (BIMS) with a completely different powertrain.

The variant shown at Chery’s BIMS 2025 pavilion has a hybrid powertrain featuring a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine mated to an electric motor and a tiny 1.8-kWh battery pack. With a maximum output of 190 horsepower and 370 Nm of torque, the hybrid powertrain can accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in a nonchalant 10.8 seconds.

In contrast, the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated inline-four of the Chery Tiggo Cross in Indonesia generates 116 horsepower and 138 Nm of torque when paired with a CVT gearbox. Meanwhile, the 1.5-litre turbocharged inline-four engine with a dual-clutch gearbox, develops 147 hp and 210 Nm.

Recent sightings of a camouflaged Tiggo Cross in Malaysia suggest the little crossover will soon be released here too. Chery Malaysia had also hinted at the model’s arrival in the past, saying that “something more affordable for the rakyat” would be introduced in the nation last year under RM100k.

Although which powerplant the disguised test car will get is still unknown, the 1.5-litre turbo-four seems to be the most obvious choice because it is shared with the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro, which is now being locally assembled in Malaysia.

In addition to its 17-inch alloy wheels, the Tiggo Cross gets a new front grille, Tiger Claw LED headlights, and Tiger Stripes taillights as part of its facelift update.

On the inside, there is a single panel that runs from the middle to the driver’s side and houses a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and centre infotainment display.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

Employing a name that sounds quite familiar—as several other carmakers use the term “Cross” nowadays—the Tiggo Cross is a sharp looker and vies with locally-made models like the Perodua Ativa in size and price range.
