Tesla Model 3 Meets Hardcore Rival in China’s New XPeng P7

Seen as a rival to the Tesla Model 3 and Hyundai Ioniq 6, XPeng’s P7, has just undergone a major overhaul to transform into a “high-tech and AI-driven smart electric vehicle” according to the carmaker.

Just debuted in the UK, the P7 is getting early rave reviews thanks to its sleek, sexy silhouette and clean lines.

Although XPeng says the automobile will be accessible in its home market of China by the end of the year, no technical details have been disclosed.

Tesla gets another hardcore rival in the P7

Up front, the car’s design has been sharpened with more acute angles and a thinner full-width lightbar. The original P7’s curvaceous body employs a sharper look, with the sloping roofline that stretches in an unbroken line all the way to the rear deck. The angular, Lamborghini-like bumper at the rear extends the angular look.

Although we haven’t seen it yet, XPeng describes the P7 as an “athletic five-seater coupe sedan” with a “immersive smart cockpit.” According to the company, the vehicle combines its most recent autonomous driving technology with “AI-powered luxury.” The goal is for the new model to “[lead] the charge into a new generation powered by AI, innovation, and ambition.” It all sounds stunning, but we will have to reserve judgment until we can check out the company’s claims.

The P7 is almost certain to improve upon its predecessor’s 83kWh battery and 350-mile range, however further specifics regarding its technical data were kept under wraps. Expect that the new model will also incorporate the company’s most recent 800-volt electrical architecture, which will result in increased efficiency, quicker charging times and better performance.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The G6 SUV, which costs about £40,000 and is an alternative to the Tesla Model Y and Audi Q4 e-tron, is currently the only XPeng offered for sale in the UK. Expect it to offer over 350 miles of range, making it highly competitive in today’s climate. It is yet unclear if the P7 will be available in the UK, but the X9 MPV has already been confirmed for sale there.
