Mazda’s Fully Electric 6e Debuts In Indonesia And Thailand, Headed For Malaysia Soon?

According to a report by Otodriver, the fully electric (EV) Mazda 6e has been slated to debut in Indonesia after already being confirmed for the Thai market. A Malaysian launch also seems imminent. But art the time this article was written, Mazda had not announced dates for Malaysia.

The chief operation officer Ricky Thio of PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia, the brand’s dealer in Indonesia, said that the 6e will be one of the electric vehicles that the company will bring to Indonesia and beyond. These models were developed in partnership with Chinese manufacturers and as such offer excellent range, features and cost performance.

The 6e, which is also referred to as the Mazda EZ-6 in China, is the Japanese automaker’s “first global new energy vehicle (NEV)” and the result of a partnership with Changan Automobile in China. The Deepal SL03, which is marketed under Changan’s premium EV subsidiary, is the basic model upon which the Mazda 6e is built.

Although plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) versions are also available in China, the Mazda 6e—which is the replacement for the Mazda 6—is only available as an EV for international markets. There are two different EV powertrain options, both of which are driven by an electric motor situated at the rear.

With 258 horsepower and 320 Nm, the base model is equipped with a 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack that offers a range of 479 km (WLTP).

The Long Range version comes has a less powerful electric motor that generates 245 horsepower and 320 Nm but boasts range of 552 km (WLTP) when combined with a larger 80 kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery pack.

The standard Mazda 6e can be charged from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes thanks to its 200 kW DC charging capability. However, even with its larger battery, the Long Range version only supports DC charging at 95 kW, which means the 6e requires 45 minutes to achieve a 10% to 80% charge..

CARLIST THOUGHTS

First launched in China as the Mazda EZ-6, the 6e is a smart-looking sedan with competitive range and should land in SE Asian showrooms wearing a reasonable price tag. It is unknown if the 6e headed to Indonesia will have the same specs as the model that will be introduced in Thailand in 2025. And yes, Mazda Malaysia does expect the car to be launched in its home market by early next year.
