New BMW M5 Debuts In Malaysia Packing 717 hp V8

Generating 717-hp from a V8 hybrid, the all-new BMW M5 has just debuted in Malaysia from BMW Malaysia. That’s basically a 100-hp jump in power over the last naturally aspirated M5 with AWD. On-road, the fully-imported super performance sedan from Germany costs RM1,247,900, which includes the BMW Service and Repair Inclusive (BSRI) package.

The M5 is easily distinguished from the standard 5 Series by its low-slung stance, flared and sculpted wheel arches, two-piece black diffuser, and quad exhaust tailpipes, all of which point to exceptional performance capabilities.

For the record, standard exterior equipment of the new M5 in Malaysia includes adaptive LED headlights with M Lights Shadownline, high-gloss black kidney grille with BMW Iconic Glow exterior package, embossed BMW M5 logo on Hofmeister kink, M High-Gloss Shadowline trim along window line

M twin tailpipes, and staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear alloy wheels.

A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen infotainment display are integrated into the driver-oriented Curved Display and certainly look the part. The interior has M-specific graphics simply because it is a thoroughbred M-model, and the new M steering wheel now has the recognisable M1/M2 custom mode selections.

The M5 boasts a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8

The M5’s powertrain, which is based on the BMW XM, has a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that generates 585 horsepower and 750 Nm. Boosted by an electric motor producing a hefty 197-hp, the M5 pumps out 717 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque.

An eight-speed automatic transmission transfers all of this power to all four wheels, enabling a top speed of 250 km/h and a 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.2 seconds. With the optional M Driver’s package, this top speed can be raised to 305 km/h.

The new M5 can drive 69 km on pure electricity thanks to its 18.6 kWh lithium-ion battery (WLTP). Meanwhile its 11 kW AC charging feature allows for a complete recharge in 3 hours and 15 minutes.

Integral active steering, which offers rear-wheel steering for increased stability at high speeds and improved manoeuvrability at low speeds, is now standard on the BMW M5 for the first time. This should make the M5 even more agile on the race track, especially when combined with its adjustable M suspension that offers Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus modes.

BMW’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping aid, active steering, and automatic speed limit monitoring, are among the safety features on the M5.

With the optional BMW service and maintenance program, which includes a five-year unlimited mileage warranty and five-year or 100,000 km of service coverage, the starting price of the BMW M5 in Malaysia is RM1,247,900. The BMW M5, without the optional BSRI program, costs RM1,188,800.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

Boasting a 717-hp and 1000Nm of torque, this M5 is one of the most powerful cars ever launched by BMW. The gutsiest is the 738-hp XM Label Red, while rivals exceeding 700-hp include the Mercedes-AMG C63 E-Performance and the S 63 E-Performance with 791-hp.
