Honda leads the U.S. auto industry with the highest fleet average fuel economy of all automakers producing a full line up of gasoline-powered and electrified vehicles in America, according to the a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Automotive Trends Report.
Even as the company focuses on maintaining the affordability of its products, Honda continues a nearly 50-year history of fuel-efficiency leadership, ranking as the most fuel-efficient full-line automaker for the 2024 model year (MY2024), the latest year that the complete data which forms the basis of the EPA report is available.
The 2025 EPA Automotive Trends Report ranked Honda first among automakers offering both electrified and gasoline vehicles with its U.S. fleet average “real world” fuel economy increasing to 31.0 miles per gallon (mpg), 3.8 mpg higher than the industry average. At the same time, Honda has maintained the affordability of its products, with an average transaction price for a new Honda vehicle of $35,060 in 2025, some $10,000 below the industry average.
In addition to its fuel-efficient gasoline-powered vehicles, Honda set an annual sales record for electrified vehicles in America in 2025, topping 400,000 units for the first time. For the third straight year, Honda achieved an all-time sales record for hybrid-electric vehicles led by CR-V hybrid, Accord hybrid and Civic hybrid.
The very first EPA ranking of America’s most fuel-efficient vehicles in 1976 placed the Honda Civic as number one, and subsequent reports have shown Honda among the leaders in EPA annual fuel efficiency measurements.
