Boasting 449 km Range BMW Launches New iX2 In Malaysia

BMW Malaysia has just debuted the all-electric 2024 BMW iX2 xDrive30 in Malaysia. The Sports Activity Coupe, as the automaker calls it, is essentially the fully electric version of the second-generation BMW X2 and costs RM297,000 on the road without insurance.

The iX2 in Malaysia has a new closed-off lighted kidney grille on the outside that is paired with a black high-gloss kidney frame and a black mesh grille. In addition, there are 20-inch M light alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, LED taillights, and a front apron with a high-gloss black radiator grille. Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Skyscraper Grey, Cape York Green, Fire Red, M Portimau Blue, and M Brooklyn Grey are the available exterior colour options for the new iX2.

The iX2 xDrive30 in Malaysia is propelled by a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) system that generates 313 hp plus a 7 horsepower boost. According to BMW, this powertrain enables the coupe to cover up to 449 km of range on a full charge on the WLTP cycle, but in the real-world, expect around 370km.

BMW also says that the iX2 can charge on DC from 10%-80% within 29 minutes and will take 6.5 hours on AC from 0-100%. The iX2 is claimed to have an electronically regulated top speed of 180 km/h and accelerate from a complete stop to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds.

Inside, the Malaysian-spec iX2 xDrive30 has many standard features, including sports seats, a Harman Kardon Hi-Fi sound system, and a M multifunction steering wheel. The 10.25-inch digital instrument display and the 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment display are features of the BMW Curved Display, which is also included.

The operating system comes with the BMW iDrive display, the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, and a QuickSelect control mechanism that is initially based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). This iX2 offers a variety of upholstery options, including Perforated Black, Perforated Atlas Grey/Smoke White, Perforated Black, and Perforated Mocha. The “Veganza” leather alternative is available in M Alcantara (Black) with Contrast Stitching Blue.

On the safety side of things, the Malaysian spec BMW iX2 xDrive30 sports the brand’s Active Guard Basis, Driving Assistant Plus, and Parking Assistant Plus safety packages. Standard safety features include Lane departure warning, Front collision warning, Left turning warning, Speed limit info and assist, Active cruise control, Steering and lane control assistant, Lane departure warning, Remote 3D view, Drive and anti-theft recorder and Attentiveness assistant.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

To be honest, we do not think this iX2 is one of the prettier Bimmers, but it certainly serves a function and has all of the hi-tech you’d expect from the latest BMW and acceptable range. The iX2 xDrive30 comes with an 8-year / 160,000 km battery warranty and a 5-year unlimited mileage warranty, together with a free scheduled service programme. The BMW Roadside Assistance and Accident Hotline as well as BMW Service Online are also included.
