CATL 500Wh/kg High-Density Battery is Coming Soon

CATL, a leading global provider of new energy innovative technologies, announced the launch of its groundbreaking condensed battery technology earlier this year. Unveiled at the last Shanghai Auto Show, CATL’s condensed battery offers an ultra-high energy density of up to 500Wh/kg, opening up the possibility of electrifying passenger aircraft.

The condensed battery uses a biomimetic condensed state electrolyte to enable efficient lithium ion transport while enhancing structural stability. Combined with other innovations in cathode and anode materials, separators, and manufacturing, it delivers excellent charge/discharge characteristics and safety.

CATL is currently cooperating with partners on developing electric passenger aircraft using the aviation-grade condensed battery. The company expects to start mass production of the automotive version later this year. This technology is poised to accelerate the adoption of electric transportation across land, air and sea.

The breakthrough comes on the heels of CATL winning the 2024 TECHNOBEST award from prestigious European automotive jury last month. It was recognized for its 4C super fast charging LFP battery called Shenxing, another industry-leading innovation enabling 400km of range from a 10-minute charge and up to 700km range fully charge. Shenxing batteries will be available in EVs from several automakers starting Q1 2024.

CATL continues to lead in battery research spanning materials, electrochemistry, and systems integration. Its commitment to pushing performance boundaries is accelerating the global transition to electric mobility. The new condensed battery ushers in an era of universal transportation electrification that will help realize carbon neutrality goals sooner.
