€25k EV? Renault 5 Teaser Hints at Retro-Modern Hatchback’s Potential

Renault has offered a sneak peek at its new all-electric Renault 5 hatchback ahead of the car’s world premiere at the 2024 Geneva Motor Show on February 26th.

The new Renault 5 E-Tech will be a modern, electric reinterpretation of Renault’s iconic 5 model from the 1970s. Renault states the 5 E-Tech will have a “cheerful design and new-generation technologies” aimed at making electric vehicles more affordable.

Design teasers for the 5 E-Tech reveal distinctive “pupil of the human eye” headlights. The front end will feature a light-up “5” logo that indicates charge status. In order to improve aerodynamics, the rear lights extend onto the vehicle’s side panel.

The 5 E-Tech will ride on Renault’s new AmpR small EV platform and feature a 52 kWh battery with approximately 400km of range (WLTP). A lower-cost 40 kWh battery option will also be available later. Renault promises the car will be fun-to-drive, with features like a multi-link rear suspension setup usually found on more expensive vehicles.

In terms of tech, the 5 E-Tech will introduce Renault’s “reno” digital assistant feature to deliver immersive driving and infotainment experiences. It will also debut new vehicle-to-grid (V2G) charging capabilities, allowing owners to sell electricity back to the power grid.

Pricing for the base Renault 5 E-Tech is set around €25,000 – on par with hybrid competitors. Reservation pre-orders are now open in select European markets for customers who want priority access when order books open later this year.

The new 2024 Renault 5 E-Tech electric will make its world debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, before hitting dealerships soon after.
