We have just heard from the Chinese carmaker that by the second half of 2025, GWM Malaysia plans to introduce two new models. Its press release states that the company would launch two new vehicles in the “premium” and “performance” divisions, with the latter being “a sportier, high-performance twist on a popular electric hatchback,” even though GWM did not explicitly unveil the new models.

So there are no surprises as the Ora Good Cat GT and Wey 80 have both been confirmed for Malaysia and now have a concrete arrival date for the two models thanks to the announcement.
The Good Cat GT gets 28 extra horsepower
The performance-focused Ora Good Cat GT, was initially revealed for Malaysia during the GWM Tank 500 preview. The Good Cat GT has a gutsier engine producing 171 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, as the name “GT” implies. Compared to the ordinary Ora Good Cat, this has 28 horsepower and 40 Nm boost.
The Ora Good Cat GT is powered by a 57.70 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack and has a 460 km (NEDC) range. It can be charged using 6.6 kW AC and 60 kW DC, which allows for a 30-80% recharge in 30 minutes.
Its sportier exterior design is unique to the GT variant and includes diffuser elements on the rear bumper, five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels with two-tone accents, a two-tone spoiler with the “GT” emblem embossed in its end plate, and large fake air vents and slightly flared black wheel arches.
In contrast, a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine pumping out 170 horsepower and 245 Nm, with two electric motors and a four-speed hybrid gearbox make up the plug-in hybrid powertrain of the premium MPV GWM Wey 80.
This powertrain generates 458 horsepower and 644 Nm in total with the electric motors powered by a lithium-ion battery pack that has a 44.28 kWh or 51.55 kWh capacity.
The Wey 80’s electric range from its 44.28 kWh battery pack is 172 km (WLTC), while its total range is as high as 945 km (WLTC). When equipped with the larger 51.55 kWh pack, the MPV has an electric range of 201 km and a combined range of 963 km.
CARLIST THOUGHTS
The packaging, powertrains and pricing of these GWM products appear ideally suited for markets in Southeast Asia. According to GWM Chairman Jack Wey, the Wey 80 would probably be a domestically assembled (CKD) vehicle when it debuts in Malaysia. Wey said at a press briefing at Auto Shanghai 2025 that the carmaker wants to work with a third party in Malaysia to manufacture the MPV in a local plant.
