How to Get a Discount on a New Tesla Model Y

The Tesla Model Y comes in three configurations to suit different needs and budgets. The most affordable Rear-Wheel Drive model starts at $43,990 and offers 260 miles of range and 0-60 mph acceleration in 6.6 seconds. For just $5,000 more, the Long Range AWD model increases range to 330 miles and accelerates 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. Finally, the Performance AWD model starts at $52,490, reaches 60 mph in a sports-car-like 3.5 seconds, but has slightly less range at 303 miles.

When weighing the options, the Long Range AWD stands out as providing strongest value. You get an extra 30 miles of range over the base model, providing more flexibility before needing to charge. The Long Range may also qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit in 2023, making the effective cost only $41,490. Moreover, the all-season tires on Long Range models tend to last longer and cost less to replace than the summer performance tires on the Performance model. Some Performance owners report spending over $2,000 to replace a set of worn tires since they wear faster.

There are also inventory deals worth considering. Tesla has new Model Ys in stock available at $3,000+ discounts compared to pre-order. Some inventory models are priced as low as $40,910. Buying from existing inventory means faster delivery as well.

Ultimately, the Long Range AWD hits a sweet spot between price, performance, and range for most buyers. Unless trying to own a sports car in an SUV body, the Long Range provides best value. Between the extra range, potential tax credit, cheaper tires, and current inventory deals, December can be an opportune time for getting a good deal on this configuration. Test drive all three versions to determine which best fits your driving needs and budget.
