At the debut of the XPeng X9 and G6 EVs recently, Erajaya Active Lifestyle, the brand’s official distributor in Indonesia, said that it will start local assembly (CKD) of the brand’s electric cars (EV) in the Archipelago, becoming the first nation outside of China to do so.
Production is expected to begin in the second half of 2025 at PT Handal Indonesia Motor’s (HIM) manufacturing site in Cikarang, Jakarta, where XPeng vehicles will be produced.
According to Djohan Sutanto, CEO of Enjaya Active Lifestyle, the partnership is a component of the company’s dedication to launching cutting-edge EVs that cater to Indonesian consumers’ demands.
In addition to being electric cars, the XPeng X9 and G6 are examples of smart mobility that blend sustainability, comfort, and efficiency. “We think XPeng‘s arrival will provide a genuinely novel driving experience and act as a spur to quicken Indonesia’s transition to electric vehicles,” he continued.
The significance of the Indonesian market in the company’s worldwide expansion strategy was further highlighted by Sam Chu, General Manager of Southeast Asia Region Business Development at XPeng. “The first nation that XPeng Global will manufacture locally is Indonesia. This marks a significant turning point for us,” he commented.
Along with the price announcement, the locally assembled versions were also introduced. In Indonesia, the XPeng X9 and G6 start at IDR1.1 billion, or roughly RM285k, and IDR599 million, or roughly RM155k, respectively.
The XPeng G6 and XPeng X9 have both officially debuted in Malaysia and are priced at RM165,820 and RM270,708 on the road, respectively.
The XPeng X9 MPV in Malaysia has a front-mounted powertrain with 320 horsepower and 450 Nm, which allows it to reach a top speed of 200 km/h and go from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. The Long Range receives a 101.5 kWh battery that increases its range to 590 km (WLTP), while the Standard Range employs an 84.5 kWh LFP battery for a 500 km (WLTP) range.
The rear-mounted engine of the XPeng G6 SUV, on the other hand, produces 255 horsepower and 440 Nm in the 580 variant and 282 horsepower and 440 Nm in the higher-spec 755 variant. Both have a top speed of 202 km/h and can reach 100 km/h in 6.6 and 6.2 seconds, respectively. The 755 has an 87.5 kWh NMC battery that provides 570 km of WLTP range, whereas the 580 model utilises a 66 kWh LFP battery for 435 km.
CARLIST THOUGHTS
As Xpeng’s reach expands into Asia, the company will look to assemble EVs not only in Indonesia but also in other major markets, such as Thailand and Malaysia. These EVs are sharp-looking, competitively priced, offer good range and options, and will therefore do the brand proud in terms of local brand reinforcement.
