Limited Edition Volkswagen Golf GTI To Go On Sale In Malaysia

Only 50 of these beauties will be offered in Malaysia. A limited edition Volkswagen Golf GTI created specifically for the Malaysian market will be introduced by Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia (VPCM).

The special edition hot hatch, which was unveiled during a recent Volkswagen Touareg media drive event here, is expected to appear “very soon,” though a precise date has not been disclosed. In honour of the Volkswagen Golf’s 50th anniversary, a limited edition of 50 Golf GTIs will be produced.

Other than the information provided above, VPCM withheld other specifics regarding the car. It is anticipated that the limited edition model will be manufactured using the Golf GTI Mk8 that is available for purchase in Malaysia.

The GTI Mk8 was updated in January of this year and is now available for RM252,990 in Malaysia, which is RM6,000 more than the 2023 model. With this update, the hot hatch gained a new head-up display (HUD) and a new 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. With the exception of the two new pieces of equipment, the Golf GTI in Malaysia is essentially unchanged.

The GTI employs the unchanged 2.0-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that producing 245 horsepower and 370 Nm with power being solely transferred to the front wheels through a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.

Featured in the car’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) suite are functions like adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking with support for bicyclists and pedestrians, and adaptive lane guidance in the event of a lane departure.

Debuting earlier this year the Golf Mk8.5 gets updated headlights, wheels, bumpers, and an illuminated “VW” symbol up front. There are 9 different powerplant options available for the Golf Mk8.5 that include a turbocharged petrol (TSI), turbocharged diesel (TDI), mild hybrids (eTSI), and plug-in hybrids (eHybrid and GTE).

CARLIST THOUGHTS

For the tech-geek diehards out there, the sportier Golf GTI now produces 265 horsepower, which is 20 hp higher than the GTI Mk8. And yes to celebrate the model’s 50th anniversary, this special bespoke limited edition (50 only!) will come with some unique features including a new HUD display and 10-speaker Harman-Kardon sound system. Ah yes, and it also gets new headlights, wheels and bumpers plus a new price that elevates the outgoing model by RM6000. Not bad for a limited edition model that will only appreciate as time goes by.
