Mazda 2 Gets Strong Cosmetic Update For Malaysia

Following in the footsteps of the all-new Mazda CX-3, which we featured recently, the Mazda 2 also arrives in Malaysia with a bunch of mainly cosmetic modifications for the 2024 hatchback and sedan.

Both variants, which retail for RM108,670, have been updated with a new black honeycomb grille and red accent, a set of black 16-inch chrome alloy wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, cruise control, automatic LED headlights, fresh upholstery and new dashboard trimmings. The slightly tweaked rear bumper also employs the same sort of red accent as the grille, positioned above the chrome exhaust finisher. Meanwhile, the hatchback is also available in new AirStream Blue paintwork.

Inside, the dashboard trims are now black, and the seats have a comfy combo of black faux leather and suede with cool red stitching. Do you sense a theme going on here? Standout cabin features include a 7-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a coloured head-up display, single-zone automatic climate control, gearshift paddles, keyless entry and start, six speakers, a reverse camera, and four rear parking sensors.

Powering the revised Mazda 2 is the same 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated inline-four engine generating 114 hp and 149 Nm of torque. Sending power to the front wheels is a 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic gearbox. The car’s safety kit also remains robust with the same with two airbags, an anti-lock braking system, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, traction control, and an emergency stop signal.

Bookings for the new Mazda 2 are now open at all Mazda dealerships nationwide. The car comes with a 5-year/100,000 km manufacturer’s warranty and a 5-year/100,000 km free maintenance (including labour).

OUR THOUGHTS

As one of the most popular compact cars in its segment, this Mazda 2 is also arguably the best-looking, and that goes for the 4-door or 5-door. It drives superbly, rides smoothly and offers some of the highest quality interior design and materials in its class. This Mazda 2 facelift is offered in fully imported hatchback and sedan versions, both priced at RM 108,670 (on the road, without insurance).
