McMurtry Automotive Opens New Factory For Record-Breaking Spéirling EV

As it celebrates its tenth anniversary, McMurtry Automotive is preparing to commence production of its internationally acclaimed hyper track car, the McMurtry Spéirling PURE. Envisioned by one of Britain’s most successful businessmen, billionaire, and prolific inventor Sir David McMurtry, Spéirling is an electric single-seater fan car with unrivalled performance and capabilities, best known for smashing the Goodwood Hill Climb record and becoming the first car to actually drive upside down.

Inspired by Sir David’s philosophy, McMurtry Automotive continues to leverage its engineering creativity and work outside of industry conventions. The approach has seen it generate more than 22 patents while meeting all technical and commercial targets to date, with the business now preparing for growth. David’s sons Richard and Ben – both existing members of the board and day-zero investors are committed to continuing their father’s legacy.

New production facility

Having already accumulated over 5000km of test mileage with record setting prototypes, McMurtry is now preparing for Spéirling PURE production. The first customer car is expected to be handed over in Summer 2026, and to facilitate this, the company has invested in a new 2700m2 facility in Wotton-under-Edge, England. This expansion, alongside McMurtry’s existing HQ, will provide the required facilities for production while also enabling McMurtry Automotive to expand its model range in future years.

McMurtry Technology

Given the scale of innovations developed through the Spéirling programme, the decision was made to establish McMurtry Technology in the original Swinhay House estate. McMurtry Technology will be focused on commercialising the intellectual property, technology, processes, expertise, and approach that have made McMurtry Automotive successful as a hypercar manufacturer – enabling other OEMs to benefit.

McMurtry Technology will offer a combination of innovative products and creative engineering services through five areas of specialisation: Downforce on Demand, Performance Battery Technology, Electric Powertrains, Vehicle Lightweighting and Vehicle Software.

McMurtry Technology currently has a number of high-profile clients and is already generating revenues in 7 figures, highlighting the worldwide requirement for McMurtry’s technology.

Richard McMurtry, Joint Owner at McMurtry Automotive, commented, “Our father’s philosophy was to seek solutions beyond the known limits, to engineer creatively and freely. That remains our guiding principle today. With Spéirling entering production and McMurtry Technology established to commercialise our innovations, this is an exciting new phase of strategic growth. We have an exceptional team that is dedicated to building a future worthy of his legacy, focused on unparalleled vehicles and technologies that conclusively demonstrate the pinnacle of British engineering.”
