MG Cyberster Debuts In Malaysia – The World’s Only Soft-top EV

The wait is over. MG’s new rear-wheel drive (RWD) Cyberster roadster has finally been officially launched in Malaysia by MG Motor Malaysia. The new model is priced from an affordable RM 299,990 on-the-road, making it RM19,910 cheaper than the all-wheel drive (AWD) variant.

The RWD version, as the name implies, is propelled by a single, rear-mounted electric motor that generates 340 horsepower and 475 Nm of torque, allowing for a 5.0-second 0-100 km/h sprint. In contrast, the dual-motor AWD version produces 544 horsepower and 725 Nm, completing the same sprint in 3.2 seconds.

The RWD spec boasts range of 508km

For the record, the same 77 kWh battery pack powers both MG Cyberster models. With the same pack, this gives the RWD model a range of 508 km (WLTP), which is substantially greater than the AWD variant’s 446 km (WLTP). With compatibility for 7 kW AC charging and up to 144 kW DC of fast charging, the battery can top up from 10-80% in 38 minutes.

The wheel size is one of the main distinctions between the two versions. The AWD version has larger 20-inch alloy wheels, while the RWD version has 19-inch wheels. With its distinctive motorised scissor doors, Union Jack-inspired tail lights, and LED headlights, the RWD Cyberster’s look is essentially the same as that of its AWD sister.

The cabin layout includes a 10.25-inch central driver’s display flanked by two 7-inch screens for infotainment and vehicle control functions.  The RWD version has a number of ADAS technologies for safety, such as blind-spot recognition, autonomous emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

At RM299,990, the MG Cyberster RWD comes in four exterior colour options: English White, Inca Yellow, Camden Grey, and Dynamic Red. For an extra RM2,000, the latter two colours can be chosen with a red soft top.

Warranty periods of seven years or 150,000 km, eight years or 180,000 km for the high-voltage battery pack, and eight years or 160,000 km for the drive motor and motor control unit are all included in the price.

The new MG Cyberster RWD is on display at MG Motor Malaysia’s “Dare to Love” Roadshow, located on the ground floor centre court of the 1 Utama Shopping Centre (Old Wing). Daily hours for the roadshow are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., July 9–13, 2025.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The Cyberster is one of the most talk-about roadsters out there right now—partly because it’s the only viable EV coupe. Bookings made during the roadshow will earn customers a special launch package that includes a limited-edition die-cast replica of the MG Cyberster, a free 7 kW wallbox charger (installation not included), and a one-year unlimited charging package with JomCharge.
