MG Cyberster Finally Goes On Sale In Malaysia

Boasting scissor doors and dropdead gorgeous styling, MG’s supercar-like Cyberster, first shown in August by SAIC Motor Malaysia, is now available for reservations in Malaysia. It is expected to cost less than RM350,000.

The two-seater fully electric roadster will be available in Malaysia in a single spec that will be fully imported (CBU) from China before the end of 2024.

The MG Cyberster is powered by a dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) system that channels 503 horsepower and 725 Nm to all four wheels. A 77 kWh battery powers the motors, allowing the EV roadster to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and deliver up to 446 km (WLTP) or range.

The MG charges from 10-80% in under 40 minutes

Using the onboard 7 kW AC charger, topping out the battery will take roughly 10.5 hours (10-100%). In contrast, DC charging can sustain up to 150 kW, which translates to a 10-80% charge in 38 minutes.

The Chinese automaker SAIC currently owns MG, yet the brand still maintains a strong focus on its history. Because of this, the Cyberster’s design was influenced by the legendary MGB roadster, which has the same wide, low-profile that characterizes traditional British sports car proportions— alarge bonnet, and short back deck.

The electric frameless scissor doors are the highlights of the roadster design, and the Union Jack-inspired tail lights at the back are an additional tribute to its British heritage.

Regardless of the exterior colour you choose (Dynamic Red, Inca Yellow, Camden Grey, or English White), the Cyberster in Malaysia will come standard with 20-inch Jetstream alloy wheels, red calipers, automatic LED headlamps and daytime running lights, and a black retractable soft top.

The driver-focused cockpit features an eight-speaker Bose audio system, a steering wheel coated in Nappa leather, and leather sports seats with Alcantara inserts and six-way adjustments. However, the interior’s collection of screens—which includes a 10.25-inch instrument cluster flanked by two seven-inch auxiliary screens, one of which controls car functions and the other serves as an infotainment display—is without doubt the interior’s highlight.

The Cyberster will include a number of advanced driving assistance systems (ADAS)—known as MG Pilot—and includes adaptive cruise control with traffic jam help, lane departure and lane maintain assist, lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, intelligent high beam, blind spot recognition, and autonomous emergency braking (with pedestrian and bicycle detection).

The Cyberster will be on display for the general public to see during the next Auto Car Expo, which will be held at the Setia City Convention Centre from October 26 to 27. Although the Cyberster isn’t available for test drives, the brand can offer access to the MG HS, MG5, MG4, and MG ZS, among other models in the company’s inventory.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

This is the EV sports car that everyone has been waiting for. It might look like a supercar with scissor doors, but it’s priced so as to not break the bank while offering competitive driving dynamics and good range.
