New Chery Tiggo Cross Debuts In Malaysia With 2 Variants

It’s been a long time coming. But the Chery Tiggo Cross has finally been launched by Chery Malaysia. The crossover is locally assembled (CKD) and comes in two variants, with the hybrid model boasting a 1,000 km claimed range and landing in showrooms priced at RM88,888 on the road.

The Tiggo Cross, which is shorter than the Proton X50 is higher and wider than the Proton crossover. The Chinese SUV’s exterior design is similar to those of its bigger siblings, the Tiggo 7 Pro and Tiggo 8 Pro, and boasts a full-width LED tail lights and a striking diamond-patterned front grille with two vertical daytime running lights (DRLs) on either side.

The main difference between the stock petrol and hybrid versions is the “HYBRID” emblem on the tailgate, and the smaller 17-inch alloy wheels equipped on the hybrid variant, versus 18-inch items on the pure ICE variant. With the rear seats folded, the Tiggo Cross’s 380-liter bootspace can be increased to 1,025-liters.

Standard exterior equipment in Malaysia includes automatic LED headlights with follow-me home functionality, LED tail lights and DRLs, 18-inch alloy wheels, red brake calipers, rear fog lights and rear sport spoiler.

With the exception of the hybrid version’s powered lumbar support for the driver seat, the inside trims of the two Tiggo Cross models are nearly identical. Other than that, the SUV’s interior has two 10.25-inch screens that function as the infotainment display and the driver’s digital gauge cluster.

Regular petrol or hybrid powertrains are offered in Malaysia with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine powering the base Tiggo Cross, sending 147 horsepower and 210 Nm to the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. This allows you to go from 0 to 100 km/h in a conservative 10.3 seconds.

The Tiggo Cross hybrid version employs a 1.5-liter normally aspirated engine with 102 horsepower and 125 Nm and is mated to a Direct Hybrid Transmission (DHT) that combines two electric motors to produce up to 204 horsepower and 310 Nm of torque. This gives the Hybrid Tiggo Cross a 1,000-kilometer range and allows it to reach 0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

This Chery is a smart-looking SUV with a competitive powertrain and stylish cabin. A seven-year or 150,000-kilometer warranty is included in the price with additional warranty benefits for the hybrid version including an eight-year warranty or 160,000 kilometres on the hybrid control unit, power motor, and battery power pack. Chery Malaysia is also offering the first 2,000 clients of the Chery Tiggo Cross an exceptional early bird package, which includes two years of free all-inclusive service in conjunction with the launch of the Tiggo Cross.
