There is no doubt that the new GWM Tank 300—due to land in Malaysian showrooms in mid-July, borrows definitive design hints from the Bronco and G-Class.
The Tank 300 is an off-road SUV from China that was first previewed in Malaysia in March 2024. It was the first of its kind when it made its debut in Malaysia, providing a fresh new choice for the local market.
Shortly after the media preview, the Tank made an appearance at Malaysia Autoshow 2024 and announced that bookings were now being accepted. It was revealed during the Autoshow that the Tank 300 will likely only come in one variant and have an estimated price tag of RM250,000.
In addition to inheriting certain Bronco lines, the Tank also just happens to Despite remind us of a Suzuki Jimny, even though the Tank 300 is a significantly larger off-road vehicle. The Tank has a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with a maximum output of 220 horsepower and 380 Nm, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive (4WD) system.
So if the exterior has the airs of a Bronco and Jimny, then the interior channels Mercedes with the Tank 300’s dashboard air vent design and instrumentation arrangement reminiscent of a G-Class. It has a dual-screen configuration for the head unit and the digital instrument cluster, just like a lot of recent Chinese vehicles.
“We have great confidence in the quality of our products, and we want our owners to feel equally confident and assured about our commitment to them,” stated Mike Cui An Qi, Managing Director of GWM Malaysia. “As a result, we are giving our first 300 owners a lifetime guarantee with unlimited mileage on the engine and gearbox.”
CARLIST THOUGHTS
The Tank 300 looks like it means business. Who cares that it channels Bronco and Jimny on the outside and Mercedes on the inside. As long as it performs, rides and handles well, and enters the market at a price below rivals Honda and Proton, which we are hearing it does, then buyers will definitely head to GWM showrooms to check it out.
