New Jaecoo J7 Finally Launched In Malaysia

We’ve been hearing about the Jaecoo J7 for a while now, but folks, here it is—at last. The official pricing details for the J7 have been revealed by Jaecoo Malaysia, following its preview in Malaysia last month. The car will retail for RM138,800 on-the-road with the flagship model at RM148,800.

The J7 sits on a 2,672 mm long wheelbase and has dimensions of 4,500 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,680 mm in height. This puts it almost with the Honda CR-V for size, while it is marginally smaller than the Proton X70.

The Jaecoo J7 has a boxy exterior that gives it a high-end but rugged appearance. Built for Malaysia, this SUV also has exterior upgrades like LED headlights, LED taillights that mimic the Ford Everest, and a set of 19-inch alloys. Its door knobs of the J7 are likewise electrically operated and flush with the body.

The J7 in Malaysia is equipped with a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine and a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox for both 2WD and AWD versions. The brand’s all-wheel drive (AWD) system transfers a total of 197 horsepower and 290 Nm to all four wheels with its 0-100 km/h sprint time of 9.9 seconds for the AWD model with the 2WD J7 taking 9.3 seconds.

The seven driving modes available to the AWD model are Eco, Normal, Sports, Sand, Mud, Snowfield, and Off-road. Inside, the Malaysian-spec J7 is outfitted with features like a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.8-inch infotainment head unit compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 6-way electric driver seat with memory, ventilation, heating, and welcome illumination.

Additional interior upgrades come with an 8-speaker sound system, a panoramic sunroof, a heated steering wheel, and a centre armrest box with a cooler. The bigger 14.8-inch touchscreen head unit and rear privacy glass set the AWD model apart from its 2WD predecessor.

Jaecoo’s advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) employs adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane departure warning (LDW), lane keeping assist (LKA), traffic sign recognition (TSR), intelligent active speed limitation, integrated cruise assistance, speed assistance, and rear collision warning are among the safety features of the Jaecoo J7 in Malaysia.

There is a 7-year/150,000 km factory warranty available for the J7. Customers who purchase early will receive a 10-year/1,000,000-kilometer mileage warranty. In place of the 13.2-inch head unit found in the 2WD, the first 300 purchasers will receive a complimentary upgrade to a 14.8-inch infotainment head unit that supports both wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto.

CARLIST THOUGHTS

The J7 seems like one of the best-appointed, best-looking SUVs to come along in a long time. And with a choice of 2WD or 4WD, plus its 1.6 liter turbo that’s married to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, we can only affirm that this Jaecoo must handle and perform as well as its arch rivals in the Honda CR-V and Proton X70.
